Oak Frame

We had a Douglas fir framed entrance pod designed by Cameron Scott of www.timberdesign.com and manufactured an installed by Carpenter Oak – the original Green oak company and sister company to Roderick James Architects who helped us with a lot of the earlier design of the house.

Oak Frame

Simon Eley of Black Pig Frame Finishing Ltd (www.blackpig.me) carried out all the incredible Oak external facing pieces and glazing. This is no mean feat as all of Simon’s work is around green oak that has a horrible habit of moving lots during the drying out process. Simon has spent years perfecting his craft, so no messy silicone sealants that tear and dry up are used, instead all weather seals are EPDM rubber gaskets which surround the Oak and glazing details, drainage is built into the IGU units – testament to his work is 4 years on not a single joint of Oak or detail where Oak meets glass has opened up – the frame (despite the usual silvering as it gets older) is exactly the same as it was the day he left it.
