Slinkies

Moonstone has two ground source heat collection mechanisms. Firstly we have 1 ½ kms of slinkies laid in four 80m long 2m deep trenches with approximately 350m of 40mm black pipe oiled into a slinky. We also have ten IVT underground compact radiator collectors, which simply don’t work – so don’t waste your money on these.

In addition with have eight 60m deep bore holes on site. We therefore have a very unique situation where we can connect all the bore holes and slinkies up together, just use the boreholes or just use the slinkies, and through the various manifolds we can turn off individual bore holes and slinkies. This is highly unusual (and not recommended), but it does allow us to say that over a typical year you will get approximately 12 – 15% more energy from the bore hole installation than the slinky arrangement.

We used Plasson Electrofusion fittings for any couplings or connections to the bore hole or slinky pipe work – a machine passes an electrical current through the fixing guaranteeing that the fusion has occurred and you have zero chance of a leak – extremely important. Imagine trying to find a leak in your underground pipe work of 1500m or more, when all your gardens, and hard landscaping has gone down.
